| I live in Ellijay and our local paper is the Times Courier. And while this county is pro-gun, it was pleasing to see a pro-gun article in this week's issue. To express my gratitude, I contacted the author of the article. My correspondence and the reply are shown below. Dear Mr. Burdick, What credentials you have! Yes, one might say you have a slight affinity. With all those guns lurking around your house, you certainly have lucked out if none have grown legs and gone out mugging people. Personally, while a big supporter of gun rights, I am directly inexperienced. Actually, before visiting that gun shop for this column, I'd never fired a gun. Never even held a gun. The proprietors quickly remedied that, by having me shoot an AR 10. What a way to be ushered in! It was quite a rush. Thank you for writing, and keep the faith. It will be a dark day in the U.S. if the 2nd amendment is slowly revoked. Best to you, ~Becky Becky Antworth Staff Writer, Times-Courier www.TimesCourier.com47 River Street P.O. As you may have guessed, I'm of the pro-gun camp. I'm also an Air Force vet who was armed during two tours of duty in the Far East while serving our country. I hold Life Membership with the VFW and NRA; hold a Lifetime Masters Certificate for pistol competition; have been a past member of the Florida State Pistol Team; and hold most instructor ratings sanctioned by the National Rifle Association. Oh, and I am also a graduate of the US Army Small Arms Marksmanship School. My dad and 2 of my uncles were police officers when I was born, and I won my first rifle match before age 12. You might say I have an affinity for firearms. The anti-firearms group is quick to preach that firearms cause crime. If so, all my firearms are defective. Thanks again for using the 1st amendment in support of the 2nd. Your candor is not only appreciated, it is also refreshing. Bob Burdick www.bobburdick.com | |

| I like it. I think more 'papers' should do a dual net/paper thing, and paper may fade one day, but with cyber-terrorism, we need paper atm too. | |
